The end of classic Media.

Show number 20, Life on a Stick still has to be mixed down ... and allready i'm working on another edition of the Knightcast... Its twelve o'clock at night and sleep is the farthest thing from my mind. Surrounded by the silence of the night the only sounds i'm hearing come from my ever growing Itunes music library. As I browse through its content I notice that I somehow am preferring podcasts or independant artists over my enormous cd collection I converted to mp3. In the back of the room our PVR-computer sits useless in the corner. Untill a few months ago its tv-tuner card played content on a daily bases.. As I peered over the edge of my screen at mainstream television .. it offered me a minute distraction and even piked my interest long enough to let me get up and watch some 'old school tv'. But somehow I have a gut feeling that it too will suffer what its brother-radio has suffered. Total deprivation of its users attention. As podcasting drove away the need to listen to standard radio.. the ever shifting palet of content I can wade through will undoubtably alienate me from 'the tube' as well. Somtimes its good to stop .. to stop.. look around and look at what has changed in the last five years.. And not only how man changed technology .. but more importantly .. how technology has affected us.. Once again we stand before the boundries of a new world : Where video is mobile and content is highly selectable. The last giants of linear media shriek their deathcry as I tune out of mainstream programming ... and build my own selection .. of what I REALY want to watch...

These are once again.. Interesting times.

Well.. A few shows ago i talked about raising dead pc's... and behold my latest achievement.. Its alive !!! aliiiive !!!!! :) Yep , the old G3 I had gotten as a present (discarded by an architect firm) has awoken from the dead. Thanx to some Yellow Dog Linux it is BACK in full swing :). But I must say I feel more like a zombie myself these days. Getting up early, the long commute, busy times at work and the occasional client on the side .. Its pretty tiresome. The last podcast has been a haphazard road production because I just have not had the time to sit down and make a decent show (my apologies). I have some free time coming up (thank heavens) in two weeks and will be spending the majority of that time working on the website and the show. (making jingles and stuff like that). Meanwhile i'm living off my laptop, my usb stick and my on line calendar. Its pretty nifty to live on the edge of real and cyberspace in a mobile world but.. I would love a chair .. a desktop ... and some time to relax :).

Today's LiveJournal quote : "Moving is like Christmas in reverse, you put everything back in boxes and tidy up the house" .. The 'shuffle all songs' function on my ipod does take me on a journey of music and makes the strangest combinations in songs making my moods swing up and down like a kangaroos tampon.

Meanwhile the chaos continues at the Knightscastle. Managed to break the receiver from one of my Logitech Wireless keyboards yesterday (yippie) Hope i can fix it up by just tying together the wires. Went out on a spree to buy a (wired) new one (and that one types even BETTER). Must say we have always had a ball with the Logitech stuff. had the wireless keyboards for over 4 years now (daily use) and still nothing wrong with them. Love the stuff ! ! !

Did my 'good deed' of the day and installed my mandrake Linux distro on my Sempron 2400 (17" big ass tft screen , Radeon 8500 to pump the color) Its absolutely fab ! (and NO dual boot with Windows) Still some work to do before i get everything the way i want it .. But I’ll get there.

On the edge of open source despair yesterday, thinking about ditching the entire network and going back to 2 single computers, yet full of energy to carry on with the project today. That’s the way the pendulum swings sometimes. From sleepless pondering over questions like : Why can't Outlook and Imap play together like nice little children.. to total joy in finding out you can turn a cheap ass wifi router into a complete firewall solution by just flashing its BIOS with an (open source) hacked firmware. But it is very for filling to find out alternatives to 'the microsoft way'

A big thanks to the lovely nyana who has been more then patient these days in putting up with the little quirks that i still have to get out of the systems. (and being kind enough to embrace FRED , the first-class mail client that looks totally alien to outlook)

I hope to have the babies up and running by Sunday (and then i'll have my life back !)
