 New website in full swing.

Codemonkey It has been a roller coaster ride, but i'm very happy to say : The new website is UP ! It took me quite some time to figure everything out but as I am in the stages of ironing out all the final errors .. I'm very very pleased. Why the new site ? Well , for one because its much more interactive. The old site ( whose design inspired THIS site of course ) was very nice but did not offer enough in terms of interactivity, archiving options, searching options and so forth PLUS the fact it was very hard to manage. I needed a website I could manage from just about any operating system, and from just about any computer for that. Law and behold : On came JOOMLA. Joomla is a content management system , which , as i said in the podcast a few weeks ago, is a nice word for an unga-munga super-website-diesel-engine. It lets me do the design of the site, the managing of the content and basicaly everything else ... on the web. No more uploads and downloads with ftp. Just a big administration console on the web and hopla !  But great thanx goes to Codemonkey Rob who pointed me towards this system and helped valiantly in setting it up. As I swung between victory and despair trying to figure out the basics of the system WITHOUT a manual (just pure deductive thinking dear Watson) He helped behind the 'screens' and did all the extra codework. So thank you codemonkey Rob !

Timewarp.

Not only did the new Dr Who series start on BBC , I mysellf have become some sort of timelord. Going back and copy-pasting old posts from 2004 and 2005 to the new blog have sent me spiraling through time and space mysellf. Its wierd to read through ones own memories.. But fun nonetheless. Speaking of our favorite timelord : Here is the site

But : Knightwise gets around.

Thepaintedbody Along with the whole overhaul (that will hopefully be finished by next monday , I mysellf am on an international promo tour around the web. Several sites have linked us up after the EMJ festival ( see podcast number 28 , life as a podcaster) I've been appearing on Kevin Mason's

Coloring outsite the lines. in an interview about my good old days as a Dj. Be sure to check out Kevins work , as th is guy is a proffesional body painter. Okay you pervs, whipe dry those drooling chins, this guy is an artist ! (and a podcasting artist for that , so go have a looksee.  Next up I had the pleasure of appearing on Jawbone Radio , one of my favorite non technology related podcasts. A fantastic hour of hilarious banter between Nora and Len who for some reason resemble Me and Nyana ( The Fantastic Wife living with the Uber-Geek) They did a live show  this week, But due to the difference in timezones it was impossible for me to make it and call in . But we thought of a little solution, tune in and listen how hilarity ensued.

And to top it all of we got a fantastic review on Roosters Rail and we let the quote speak for itself :    " .... and he has a podcast called the Knightcast. It is a great quality podcast; hell he uses VBR encoding at high bit rates - bandwidth must be cheap in Bulgaria! Plus I think his accent is cool. "  Besides the fact that good old Dave thought I was Bulgarian , in my humble opinion I think he's right on the money.

Way to early in the morning once more, but my on line banking still had to be done and the looming dread of unpaid bills had overshadowed me in my dreams. So at about five thirty am I allready had bitten into the sour grape and got my stuff done. Enough money to buy me a small Powerbook went 'poof' as once again its time to pay taxes. I HATE that ! ... But the good thing is I found this cool hack on line how to turn your pc into a terminal server.

Remote desktop hack : As you know : With remote desktop you can log into an xp machine remotely, but the bummer is that the currently logged in user gets bumped out. Not with this hack ! It enables you to tweak XP in such a way that it will accept one LOCAL user (who is behind the keyboard at the machine) and TWO remote users to connect to the machine at the same time. For me personally this opens up a great realm of possibilities. Imagine using my high end system as a 'terminal server' that is mainly used as a media center (recording video, playing mp3"s and so on) and whenever we need XP-Computing-Power we can connect to it with our MACS via remote desktop :)Of course i'm gonna try this out ! I just Have to ... Here is the link my geeky friends.

harddrive

Don't you just hate it when you have to send large files over the internet ? I mean .. anyting bigger than two megabytes is a bitch to pump over the lines. One just cannot cram it in an email (for gods sake : that technology is for TEXT only actually) Not everyone has an FTP account where you can up and download stuff for them. So whats left ? Doing your own file Bar-Mitsva and cutting the file into peaces ? Or perhaps the other hard-timer : Waiting for your contant to come on line and sending it via Instant Messaging.

Free one gigabyte online file storage : Or you can use : http://www.thebox.net its an on line ONE GIGABYTE file storage service that lets you store your stuff ON LINE for FREE. So up to One gig its free (mind you : the files you upload are only allowed to be 10 megs per file if you use the free account). Payed accounts go upto 5 gigabytes. You can also make certain 'folders' in your box and share these out to the world. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me, certainly with all this cool web 2.0 stuff flying around. Now you can use a wordprocessor on line, and store your files on-line too. Who the frack needs a harddrive anyway :)

Thing A Week: Code Monkey, originally uploaded by jawboneradio.

One of the great things of being a cyber-citizen is the fact that one does not need to worry about the weather. If its hot or cold, sunny or rainy.. I seldom give the preverbial excrement because ... I'm inside too much. So my fiancé decided to take care of that.

Combine your brain and your GPS : Me and Nyana had a lovely lovely easter weekend this week. Doing some shopping in Hasselt on Saturday, lounging out all day long sunday and going for a wonderfull trip to the seaside on monday. And we could not have picked a better day. Great weather, nice cappuchino's.. you know the drill. And as usual when we got back : Traffic jams ! Now one of the tricks here is to use technology in a way that IT works for YOU and not the other way around. As everybody around me followed their GPS blindly they all ended up in the same traffic jam. The trick is to disengage the GPS system but let the 'map view' run. So you can see an actual map from where you are. Next zoom out untill you see your possible destination and calculate your own shortcut. Now I must say it takes two to play this game. One looks at the map and calls out directions, the other drives. But what do ya know ? It worked like a charm. We cut in in front of the jam an were on our merry way. (plus having the privilege of hearing the most sexy gps voice ever : my fiancé). So letting tech work for you does not always mean you have stop thinking. Sometimes disengaging 'the auto' and flying manual with instrumentation can get you farther .. faster ...

Classic Transformer Nostalgia. Well, with easter coming up its once again time for children to dive into the backyards of their parents on sundaymorning. There they can look for hidden chocolate eggs and stuff their belly's like there is no tomorrow. The will be walking around with a Joker-like smile for days as the brows streaks of chocolate enhance their pale freshly stuffed faces. Right up to the point where they puke their sorry little brains out only to vow crying that they will NEVER EVER touch the brown stuff again. Well.. Thats was how it used to go in my days. We would get tons of candy and ONE toy. Everything would be hidden in the garden and the toy was mostly the hardest to find. So easter sunday 1985 I got my first Transformer Robot. The evil beetle 'Shrapnell' Decipticon Insecticon and general bad ass. He was the first of a rather large collection of transformers I aquired over the next twenty-so years. I don't know why but occasionaly I jump into the toystore to take a look at the Transformers on display there (only to leave disappointed because its no longer what it is used to be). Whenever I get to a Junkett I scan the blankets for old worn down Transformers. "1st Gen" or "vintage" models as the ones I look for are called today. Don't know why realy .. I mean they are cool but they also represent a peace of childhood to me. And when every once-in-a blue moon I stumble upon that one played-down little peace of forgotten times.. I think of how times change us .. They transform us from kid to adult. But unlike the Transformers.. We cannot transform back.
